Google Paid Apple $1 Billion to be Default Search Engine

There have been various rumours about how much Google pays Apple to be the default search bar on the iPhone. A transcript of court proceedings from Oracle Corp’s copyright lawsuit against Google revealed that Apple received $1 billion from Google.

Since 2010, Oracle has claimed their Java technology was borrowed to build Android phones without compensation. The documents from the hearing on January 14 revealed the hefty fee Google was willing to pay and that the two companies agreed to share the revenue. One witness said that the revenue split stood at 34% to Apple.

They were also both quick to demand the details of the deal be kept secret with Google citing that it was “highly sensitive.” The judge has ordered that record sealed making a lot of people question the morality of these large corporations.
