Twitter launches ‘Moments’ in Australia

In a bid to attract its non-active users, Twitter has introduced its Moments feature in Australia. Aussies will be the first Twitter users in the Asia Pacific region to have Moments bring them the very best of Twitter across a range of topics.

It aims to deliver the best stories from all over the world in an instant. A collation of pictures, highlights and headlines from major events will appear in a new tab. After making a selection from topics such as Entertainment and Sports, users will be welcomed by a title and description followed by a series of pictures, videos, vines and GIFs.

Traditionally, the Twitter Timeline is curated depending on who you follow and trends your interested in. Now everything you need to know to get in the loop about trending local or global events will be ready for you in the app or website. Moments will also allow users to find the right accounts to follow to keep an eye on any updates and once it’s over, you’ll unfollow them automatically.

Businesses will be cheering about Moments, as it will potentially be a new platform to market their brand without too obviously marketing their brand. Twitter Australia is currently engaging with brands about Promoted Moments strategy but it is all still in the works.

In a Periscope this morning with Twitter Moments Global Curation Lead Andrew Fitzgerald and Australian Curation Lead Luke Hopewell, the pair answered questions on what Moments is and what they intend for it in the future.

Hopewell said “Moments will Connect users to the best content as quickly as possible because there’s so much happening on Twitter.” He added  “It’s basically just as easy as swiping along.”

Also, when Fitzgerald was asked about future sponsorship and promotion he spoke of Promoted Moments saying, “There will be an opportunity for advertisers to use soon.”

Only time will tell how successful Moments will be in Australia but we look forward to seeing how users react to  it.
