Stephen Hawking Dies At 76

Yesterday the world lost Professor Stephen Hawking at the age of 76.

Hawking was the most famous living physicist, winning significant awards throughout his career including the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, the Paul Dirac Medal and The Wolf Prize. After receiving the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, it was cited that ‘his persistence and dedication has unlocked new pathways of discovery and inspired everyday citizens’.

Hawking’s diagnosis with ALS at the young age of 21 pushed him to prove that ‘people need not be limited by physical handicaps as long as they are not disabled in spirit’.

Not only will Hawking’s be forever remembered for his incredible intelligence and intellectual power, he will be remembered for refusing to let his motor neurone disease interfere with his incredible mind and insights. He emphasised the ultimate need to realise our full potential on earth and making impactful use of the lives we have.
Hawking’s 3 children released a statement to the press yesterday addressing the loss of their father.

“ He once said, ‘it would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t for the people you love’. We will miss him forever.”
