Everyone’s favourite office messenger app Slack have announced that they just raised $US200 million at a $US3.8 billion post-money valuation. With investors like Thrive Capital, Accel and Index Ventures, the company’s total funding now sits at a whopping $US540 million. Not bad for a company that gained success after failing as a video game business.
Co-founder and CEO Steward Butterfield said, “We are taking this opportunity to further secure our leadership position as we continue to execute on our ambitious growth planes. The capital adds to our existing reserves and increases our ability to focus on an uncompromising, long-term, strategic view.”
The San Francisco based company also just launched in Australia last week when they officially opened their APAC HQ in Melbourne. Slack has introduced a whole new way to communicate with colleagues and they hope to kill email-based work culture. Users aren’t just checking notifications every now and then, they literally live on Slack. On average users are spending 10 hours each weekday plugged into the application. It has become a hub for important work talk, exchanging files, casual chat and let’s not forget the hilarious gifs. Slack will continue to take over the world, one office at a time!
