Samsung has released it’s new Galaxy, proving the company is still a worthy competitor to the Apple iPhone.
Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones on Sunday during its MWC event in Barcelona. While new features make up the phone, there are two key features that are returning after they were scrapped from the pervious generation of the Galaxy.
The Galaxy S7 is rated with “IP68” dust and water resistance meaning the phone can be submerged up to five feet underwater for up to 30 minutes. It’s a great phone for people who are serial phone drowners.
The second prodigal feature is the microSD card that can be inserted to boost the memory from 32GB to a whopping 200GB. This feature was also removed in the Galaxy S6.
One feature that the users might be a little unhappy with is the size of the new Samsung. The Edge is 5.5 inches, larger than the S7 model which is at 5.1 inches. iPhone similarly increased their generation 6 iPhones, which customers found too large for everyday use, hence why Apple plans to release a smaller version of the 6 in March this year.
The camera is also a win-lose situation, Samsung have cut down the pixel density from 16 megapixels to 12, but have added a dual-pixer rear camera, making auto-focus quicker than its predecessors and the iPhones camera.
The camera also boasts a higher aperture of f1.7, letting more light in for better quality low-light shots — another one up on the iPhone.
Battery life proves to be a cut above the competition as the S7 is at 3000mAh and 3600mAh in the Edge. The iPhone is at a mere 1715mAh.
Overall the phone seems like a winner. Durable, fast and geared to last, it’s an imposing competitor for the iPhone and Android. You can pre-order the Galaxy S7 for $1149 or the Galaxy S7 Edge for $1429.
