Google’s Rio Olympics plans

The Rio Olympics are just around the corner and of course we all can’t wait to support all the Aussie athletes, even if it’s just from our screens. Channel 7 has us covered but now Google also has a plan to steal our eyes throughout the games.

In order to broadcast event highlights across 60 countries, Google will be partnering with the BBC, América Móvil and NHK.

They have also announced that they will be sending 15 YouTube stars (or Creators as YouTube calls them) to livestream part of the games. Some of the stars include Liza Koshy, Brodie Smith, Caeli and Chloe Morello who will commentate the games as well us give us some tours of the grounds.

YouTube said they will also be provide us with 360 degree videos and take advantage of the new mobile live streaming feature to “share real time moments from Brazil as they unfold.”

This year’s games are expected to be the most-watched online Olympics ever. Watching sport on Youtube has rocketed since becoming available to users. Viewers have watched 23,000 years worth of Olympic athletics, swimming, gymnastics and volleyball footage.
