After 5 months of tweaks, Facebook is opening its Live feature to all U.S. iPhone users and plan to roll out to the rest of the world over the next coming weeks. On Periscope, videos can be re-watched only during the 24 hours after it was broadcasted whereas Facebook Live allows endless replays.
To share a live video, tap on Update Status and then select the Live Video icon. During the broadcast you can see number of live viewers, names of friends watching and a real-time stream of comments. (A little too similar to Periscope perhaps?) Then if you see a broadcast in your News Feed that you like, you can subscribe to get a notification every time they go live.
It reinforces just how important video has become to Facebook, particularly after revealing that users watch 100 million hours of video every single day. The live streaming war is going to come down to whether users prefer the less self-conscious broadcasting of Periscope or the larger audience and permanent replays of Facebook Live.
