The parent company of Dreamworld, Ardent Leisure, announced in a statement to the ASX this morning that Dreamworld is set to reopen on Saturday, December 10 with a charity weekend. Of each guest entry fee, $25 will be donated to the Red Cross.
The theme park has been closed for the past month due to the tragic deaths of four visitors; Cindy Low, Kate Goodchild, Luke Dorsett and Roozbeh Araghi. The four were tragically killed on the Thunder River Rapids ride. Previously, the company announced that this ride would be demolished out of respect for the victims and their families.
Ardent Leisure made a statement about the profitability of the company to the ASX; “The closure of both Dreamworld and Whitewater World throughout the month of November 2016 will result in no significant revenue being recorded for that month (2015: $7.6 million). In addition to lost revenue, the Theme Parks division is expected to incur operating costs in the range of $4.0 million to $4.2 million for the month.”
Dreamworld chief executive, Craig Davidson, also confirmed that a number of attractions would be fully operational from the opening weekend.
“Every single attraction opening on 10th December will have passed an unprecedented multi-level safety review, encompassing Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s audit, Dreamworld’s internal engineering review, Pitt & Sherry’s independent review and the external peer-review by UK based theme park safety specialists, LTC.”
