For seven consecutive years, the Chinese supercomputer has been listed as the word’s faster computer and has now been built without any American technology.
This year’s champion is the Sunway TaihuLight which was developed by China’s National Research Centre of Parallel Computer Engineering & Technology. The software is intended to be used for engineering and research conditions such as life sciences, data analytics and climate. The top speed of the computer is five times the Oak Ridge’s Titan using Cray, NVIDIA and Opteron technology.
“China claimed a mere 28 systems on the list, with none ranked in the top 30, the nation has come further and faster than any other country in the history of supercomputing,” a Top500 organiser said in a statement to CNBC. These supercomputers are used for designing nuclear weapons, analysing oilfields and delivering weather forecasts. They are mostly targeted at China’s communist party for development and receiving financial support.
The announcement for the milestone was made on Monday passing the US’s inventions. China was ranked second in the Top 500 ranking last year building 167 Supercomputers and the USA building 165.
