Last night, former Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and his partner Vikki Campion sat down with Channel 7’s Sunday Night to discuss their relationship and their son Sebastian.
In the exclusive interview, the couple stated their payment of $150,000 with the news program was to go into a trust fund for Sebastian.
The two revealed the beginnings of their relationship, a topic where the details they provided were a bit vague.
Vicki, a former media advisor, explained how her relationship with Barnaby developed from professional to romantic.
“I think we were close for a long time before there was anything,” Vikki said.
“You do become very good mates first,” Barnaby added.
“I was going through some fairly difficult private circumstances of my own. He was also going through some things,” said Vikki. “You can’t help who you fall in love with.”
The politician was also vague to discuss the breakdown of his marriage of 23 years to his ex-wife Natalie.
“I’m not going to go into the gory details, but it was, you know… it is what it is.” Barnaby said.
When asked if he still had feelings for his ex-wife, the former deputy PM refused to answer the question or discuss further details about the breakdown of his marriage.
Last Winter, Vikki fell pregnant. The couple knew Barnaby could lose his job.
Although Barnaby was against abortion, Vicki considered terminating the unplanned pregnancy but couldn’t go through with it.
“From my perspective, it was a miracle that I was pregnant in the first place,” she said.
Vikki believed she could not have children due to medical issues.
Despite her decision to keep the pregnancy, Vikki felt pressure from conservative party members to get an abortion.
“I would do anything to protect him,” she references her son. “Everything was worth it for this.”
For 150K, I was expecting a better interview. Barnaby was reluctant to talk about his relationship with Vikki or the breakdown of his marriage; he didn’t answer the question if he still had feelings for his ex-wife when his current partner is right next to him. A shame of an interview.
