Once you’ve landed a great job you’re going to want to keep it. Many employees fall for these silly mistakes that force them to the big boss’s office for all the wrong reasons. We’re all guilty of making these mistakes here and there but if you value the position you have, try and avoid these mistakes to not be let go.
- Forgetting about ‘your online self’
The online version of you may or may not portray the real person you are but one thing it shouldn’t portray is a person that hates their job. Just don’t do it! Be very careful of what you post and comment in the social media world because the wrong eyes might come across it and cost you your job. Conner, a recent college graduate tweeted, “Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work.” It may come as a surprise but Conner never started at Cisco. - XOXO… Gossip Girl
We’re all guilty of some scandalous chatter amongst colleagues but don’t be fooled that everyone is loyal, snitches do exist. You’re better off just ranting to your partner at home about how annoying Jenny from sales is. While you’re in the office, just keep your mouth shut. At the time it might seem harmless but it can very easily come back to haunt you. (When Jenny finds out) - Hiding Mistakes
They don’t say honesty is the best policy for nothing. Way too many employees convince themselves that trying to cover up mistakes is the best way to go. In fact, it just makes matters worse. It might temporarily keep you out of trouble but when the truth comes out you’re going to be in an even worse situation than you could’ve been. Own up to it and your boss will more likely be forgiving due to you coming clean. - Smartphone? Not a smart idea!
Unless you feel like getting fired you need to get off it, just turn it off and put it in your bag and go on it at lunch. You’re getting paid to work not to scroll through your Instagram feed double tapping pointless things. Sooner or later your boss is going to come up behind you and see what you’re up to and game over. You’re out! - Complaining
This last mistake is very generic but just stop complaining! It doesn’t matter what it’s about whether it’s about work, your partner, your kids or your smashed phone. Whatever it may be, don’t bring your personal problems to work. Essentially it reflects badly on you and reveals a character flaw to your co-workers and your boss. Talk about the happy things and you should be fine.
